Trapout – for naught…

The trapout posted several days ago will not work. The bees have another entrance/exit about 10-15 feet in the air in the tree… There were no foragers from the bottom, because they were simply there for ventalation.

I’ll re-evaluate the tree later in the week, and see if I can close off the main entrance, […]

Swarm Capture

I received a message from a friend today about a swarm that had taken up a temporary home in a tree in her back yard. I loaded up the extension ladder, and high-tailed it to her home before it got too late in the evening, and evaluated what we had going on… It looked to […]

Trap-Out Re-Start

Today I checked up on a trap-out that was started about 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, the 1-way screen was blocked with masses of dead bees – and the survivors chewed through the other blocked entrances/exits to get out. I can’t say that I blame them for their industrious nature!

I made the appropriate repairs to […]

Hive Check

We have had a few cool nights this week, with temperatures down into the mid 30’s (deg. F). When today’s temperature got up to about 50 deg. F, I decided to go ahead and check the hive. Going into winter, I had put in 4 lbs of dry sugar onto the inner cover, then covered […]

Pollen Coming In – and Swarm Traps/Lures

1/30/2012

This last weekend was beautiful in north Texas. Friday, I saw a variety of pollen coming into the hive – including a nice bright yellow-orange color; some was a pale yellow-white in color; and other -(presumably henbit) was a blood-red. The henbit has been flowering for the last 2-3 weeks, now. Daytime temps have […]

Finished building – Last for 2011

Finished building

Here’s the final parting shot of the last build for 2011. See ya next year! Now, it’s time to work on my bee hives!

New Jackets

My new Beekeeping jackets from HTK Bee Supply arrived last week. They were running a sale on them last month – and I took advantage of the sale, and ordered (2) jackets. Saved MUCHO DINERO. They appear to be of good quality. The only thing I seem to not like, though, is that the zippers […]

Honeybee Swarm and Colony Removal

I have added a page specifically for honeybee removals – in preparation for the 2012 Spring Swarm season.

If you, or someone you know has a swarm of honeybees that have clustered in your yard, trees, on a fence, under the eve of your home, or on your playground equipment, then give me a call. […]

Outland Apiary

Good news!

It looks like I have a great location for a few hives for next year (2012)!

Spring-fed water source (to our knowledge it has not run dry in the last 12-13 years) LOTS of wildflowers & nector/pollen forage

The down side…

The location is about 2.5 hours away from my home. That’s […]

The Bee Yard – Equipment Growth

Deeps, Mediums, and more….

This fall, I made the investment in a few more hive bodies for the growth of the honeybees.

Added to the hardware:

(5) – 10-Frame “Deep” hive bodies (15) – 10-Frame “Medium” hive bodies (100) – “Medium” frames

and I still need to procure about (100) “Deep” frames, and another (50) […]
